Its been a long time it feels since I spent a whole day doing arty-farty creative stuff. Since I got my new job and problems with my nose started getting worse I have had no energy at all, and no inspiration at all to do anything unless I had to really. It kinda hit me a few weeks got and it got messy. Since then I have been trying to get my makers hands busy again, but not forcing them. Its amazing how a change of mindset, or one small thing can start off a chain reaction.
I bought a sketchbook, as a place to fuel ideas and keep all my makes in one place. It gave me a purpose to make things again and to fill up my mind and get the thoughts chasing each other in my brain. Honestly one of the best things I done recently. Saturday is my only completely free day of the week really to dedicate to doing art and it was good just being able to jump from idea to idea, mess to mess. It is so good to that have that meaning that when I do something or have an idea, to just do it and keep it somewhere. Sometimes when we have ideas we don't do anything about them because there is no purpose or meaning to them but there is - its called happiness.
To go along my sketchbook I customised this little wooden box so it now holds everything I will need to do art on the go - pens, pencils, paints and paintbrushes, rubber, ink, glue, and bit of ribbon and interesting pieces of paper. So no matter where I am I go ahead and keep a record of my ideas.
Also having parents that are artists and crafters really helps. There is always and abundance of resources at the ready, like my mums box or pretty coloured threads that fills me with ideas just looking at it. Not only that but she takes me to cool fabric warehouses like the Eternal Maker in Chichester. We spent nearly two hours there and had to restrain ourselves so much to not buy the whole shop. We still came away with £150 worth of fabric....But it was so inspiring just being in a place like that and having so many ideas and being so inspired. You need to go to places that you have never been to before I think just for the ideas that you might not get otherwise!
Cool fact about my mum: she makes me clothes. My wardrobe is whole handmade by mum and second-hand and it the coolest thing ever having custom made clothes!
